What We Offer
Our state-of-the-art Foundation Wellness Center provides residents and team members the opportunity to perform exercises for personal benefit and enrichment, while striving to attain a lifestyle of physical fitness and wellness. The Wellness Center is staffed with credentialed Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology graduates, certified professionals, and student interns from Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan Universities. In the Wellness Center you can enjoy our balance room, group exercise, cardio, and strength training areas. Wellness services are provided for all levels of care throughout the campus. Westminster Village has provided over eleven years of professional wellness services.

FAST Facts
- On October 11, 2018, Westminster Village opened the newly expanded Foundation Wellness Center to residents and team members located on the second-floor balcony.
- Since opening in 2018, we have had over 450 residents visit the Wellness Center, performed over 330 initial fitness assessments, and over 510 re-assessments. Significant improvements have been seen in balance, strength, flexibility, speed, agility, reduction in pain, and weight loss.
- The Wellness team currently has over 250 regularly scheduled individual appointments each week and provides 26 group exercise classes each week.
- The week of August 29, 2022 we had our largest week of resident check-ins to the Wellness Center with over 290 check-ins!
- From the beginning of November 2021 to the beginning of September 2022 we have had over 11,300 resident check-ins to the Wellness Center! This number already surpasses our previous year’s numbers!

Challenge your range of motion and flexibility in this seated class. With the use of fitness balls and pool noodles this class has the perfect combination of exercises to loosen up your tight muscles, increase your ability to breathe, and leave you feeling more flexible.
Tuesdays & Fridays / 9am (45 Min) / RC 2&3
Join us for a total-body workout appropriate for any fitness level. This class is designed to increase joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance. The workout combines aerobic and resistance training with plenty of friendly fun. Standing exercises can be modified to be performed seated or with the support of a chair.
Mondays & Thursdays / 10am (30 Min) / Wellness Center
This class takes a simple movement and turns it into a full body workout that will leave you smiling and feeling great! The movements will increase heart rate and blood flow, resulting in an effective aerobic workout. With the use of drumsticks, an exercise ball, and an exercise ball stand we will create one of the most fun workouts you’ll ever do!

Tuesdays & Thursdays / 1pm (30 Min) / Wellness Center
This class focuses on relieving inflammation and pain associated with arthritis in your hands, fingers, and wrists. With the use of squeeze balls, power webs, light hand weights, and pinch pins we also improve fine motor skills, dexterity, and grip strength.
30 Min Sessions / Wellness Center Balance Room
This class is designed to improve strength in the ankles, legs, and feet while focusing on proprioception and core strength. With the use of a handrail, we are able to improve muscular strength along with coordination.

30 Min Sessions / Wellness Center Balance Room
This class is designed to have residents practice advanced balancing techniques in order to maintain or improve their existing balancing ability. With the use of a handrail and resistance bands we are able to challenge the body’s ability to shift weight while engaging in motions such a stepping, turning, pushing and pulling

Mondays / 3pm (30 Min) / Wellness Center Balance Room
Perform postures and breathing exercises with the aid of a chair. Experience the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Benefits include increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction.
Mondays / 3pm (30 Min) / Wellness Center Balance Room
This class is designed to help you safely improve your mobility, strength, and balance, while teaching you how to relax and feel less stress and anxiety. The balance bar or a chair are available for support, making this an accessible class for residents to get down and up from the mat.
Tuesdays / 2pm (30 Min) / Wellness Center
Increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance in this standing circuit workout. Fitness and fun come together as you alternate non-impact aerobic choreography with total body strengthening exercises using hand-held weights and elastic resistance bands. Chairs are available for support.
Thursdays / 2:15pm (45 Min) / The Landing
Enjoy a fabulous mind-body workout while dancing your way to better health! You will boost your brain power by improving your memory skills, strengthen your bones without hurting your joints, develop better balance to help prevent falls, and release stress so you feel great. Come dance to a wide mix of music styles, including country, pop, and big band!
Thursdays / 9am (30 Min) / Channel 88
This class is great for the mind, body, and soul. The main focus of chair dance is to improve cardiovascular endurance. Participants will move through a full body workout in a seated position while listening to music from the 1920’s to today’s hits.
Tuesdays / 3pm (30 Min) / Channel 88
A great way to box for both cardiovascular and strength endurance. Improve your hand-eye coordination and cognitive function with no impact on a bag, mits, or a person! Focus is on your form to avoid injury, and to get the most benefits from the workout!
Wednesdays / 1pm (30 Min) / Channel 88
Come receive the benefits of traditional Tai Chi in the safety and comfort of a chair. This gentle exercise program is a great way of learning how you can calm your mind and energize your body. Benefits include improved balance, flexibility, range of motion, strength, energy, pain relief, tranquility, stress reduction, and peace of mind.
Monday – Friday / 11:30am (30 Min) / Floor 3 Sunroom
Join the Assisted Living community for a total body workout appropriate for any fitness level. This class is designed to increase flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance from the safety and comfort of a chair. This 30 minute workout combines aerobic, flexibility and strength training with the use of a resistance band, stress ball, and plenty of friendly fun.

Whatever your fitness needs or current level of activity, our wellness team is here to guide and encourage you. They will work with you to create an individualized training program.
Residents wishing to attend in person classes only need to register for Body Balance, Advanced Balance, and Cardio Drumming due to limited space and equipment. All other classes are open and welcome to existing and new participants.
The Wellness Center is located on the second-floor balcony above the Social Center. Elevators are located next to the Residents Store and The Landing Dining Room. Take the elevators up to Floor 2.
Residents have 24-hour access to the Wellness Center seven days a week.
Wellness team members are available in the Wellness Center Monday through Friday 7:15am until 4:15pm.
Note: These hours may vary depending on team member availability.
Wearing the right clothes can help minimize the risk of injury while making sure you feel confident and comfortable at the Wellness Center. We encourage closed shoes when visiting the Wellness Center. This means no open-toed shoes, flip-flops, sandals, or slippers.
Yes! Personal Care Assistants provide transportation to and from the Wellness Center for Assisted Living residents and the wellness team provides transportation to and from the Wellness Center for Martin Health Center residents.
Yes! We offer individual programs and group exercise for all residents throughout the entire campus. For Memory Care residents the wellness team will come to the Memory Care unit and take the resident(s) to the Assisted Living Fitness Room right outside the unit for their individual program(s). Group exercise is led by a member of the wellness team on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10:30am in the Memory Care activity space.
Yes! Group exercise is held Monday through Friday at 11:30am on Floor 3 in the Sunroom activity space. Assisted Living residents are welcome to join group exercise classes held in Independent Living space as well.
s! Group exercise classes led by a Wellness team member are held in the 5100 living space on Tuesday afternoons at 3pm and in the 5200 living space on Thursday afternoons at 3pm.
es! We have a wonderful relationship with our onsite Therapy team, HealthPro Heritage. They offer Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy services. They are located in our Therapy gym right outside of Martin Health Center across from the Martin Health Center beauty salon and our Westminster chapel.
