Spooktacular Pumpkin Decorating Contest

The seventh annual Westminster Village Spooktacular Pumpkin Contest, Thursday, October 30 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Residents and community members are invited to view decorated pumpkins and enjoy refreshments. At 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. you can listen to scary stories, told by David Walsh! Treat bags for children under 12. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes!

To Enter:

 If you would like to enter the decorating contest, pumpkins must be dropped off at the front desk of Westminster Village on October 29 between noon and 7 p.m., or October 30 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. with a completed entry form. Pumpkins may be picked up after 8:30 p.m. on October 30 and from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 31.

Judging & Prizes:

 The entered pumpkins will be judged at 4:00 p.m. on October 30, 2008 by Carmen Lozar, Gallery Director from Illinois Wesleyan University. 

There will be a “Best Overall” winner, with subsequent winners in each of the other categories.  The “Best Overall” winner will receive a $100 Savings Bond.  There will also be prizes for all other categories within the age groups.

There will also be a "People's Choice" award. Everyone who comes to the event may vote for their favorite entry. Extra prizes will be given.

* The judge has the right to place a pumpkin in a different category if it seems more appropriate.

 

 

Pumpkin Categories:

[Last Years Entries and Winners]

Please remember that pumpkin categories are media specific.

PaintedPumpkins that are decorated with paint. (only)

CarvedPumpkins that are hollowed and carved. (only)

Relief Carved – Any pumpkin which is hollowed and has an etched design. (only)

Creative
Pumpkin that use more than one medium. (i.e. a carved pumpkin that is also painted or does not fit into other category)

Gingerbread House – Created
Halloween homes from food items.

Floral – A pumpkin arrangement     which includes floral decoration.

Table Center Piece - Table decorations using pumpkins that would be appropriate for a banquet or table center piece. (must be on a tray, may include multiple mediums)

Multi Medium - Pumpkins created from fabric, wood or other substances.

Carved Fake Pumpkin - Pumpkins carved using fake pumpkins designed for carving.

* If you would like your pumpkin lit, please carve a 4” hole in the base of the pumpkin, or put a flashlight in the pumpkin.

   We hope you enter the contest, but whether you do or not, plan on attending the Spooktacular Party October 30 from 6:00 to 8:30. There are treat bags for children, under 12, and treats for everyone. Enjoy the Scary Stories by David Walsh at 6:30 and 7:30, in the haunted room that Westminster Village Staff has created.
