The new
addition is nearing completion and we have started to use
it for activities and programs.
We are still waiting
for basement completion and landscaping.
On Wednesday, August
20 at 2:30 p.m. in the new multi-purpose room at
Westminster Village, we held a dedication for the new
areas. There were over 245 in attendance for the event, so
the room was crowded. Music in the form of two songs were
sung by the Westminster Village "Swinging Singers" with
resident Irma Sands accompanying on the piano. Speakers
were Executive Director Lynn DeCair who said this is a
wonderful project for the residents. The project was not
about the bottom line, but about enriching the lives of
the residents by providing much needed space for
additional programs. We are all so glad this project has
become a reality. Other speakers were Westminster Village
Inc. Board President, Ruth Ann Fraher, Resident Council
President, John Nebgen, Architects for the project, Shive
Hattery who was represented by Mark Anderson, Vice
President and Bloomington Office Director. The 2.3 million
dollar addition was built by Felmley Dickerson Co. with
John Meek, Felmley Dickerson's President, representing
them. The state of the art entertainment sound system was
purchased by the Westminster Village Foundation who was
represented by Carol Barger, Secretary of the Foundation.
The dedication was
given by Carl Lauer, former President of the Westminster
Village Foundation. The speakers cut a ribbon to signify
the opening of the new area. Also included in the project
was the addition, not only of the large multi-purpose
room, exercise/billiards room, conference room, office,
additional bathrooms, a new elevator and the Sandwich
Shoppe, where sampling of the Sandwich Shoppe food were
served.
